Yes. In Secondary School I had never had a big issue with my stutter. Although stuttering was obviously daunting me in my day to day, I went to school with my circle of friends and I got along well with pretty much everybody, and they all knew I had a a stutter; students and teachers. So really, I was in a comfort zone. Until I entered university. My friends went to different unis and I suddenly realized I had to make new friends and engage in work with people I did not know; presentations, group work, oral exams and quizzes. I didn’t make any friends my first year because I didn’t dare to speak to anybody, and I got pretty depressed because I thought I couldn’t help it. At that moment I knew I could no longer be like that, hiding constantly from speaking situations and isolating myself. I joined the McGuire Programme, the international stuttering courses and support chain. I am not trying to promote anything but this really helped me. I’m now in my third year in university and I’m doing much better. Especially with myself and accepting that I have a stutter and I have to make some efforts and sacrifices in order to improve. I hope all goes well for you in University OP. I don’t know if you’re asking because you’re about to enter or not, but anyhow. I wish you the best!
