No one really knows much about stuttering, we don't understand it like we do other things about the human body, but there's a lot of evidence that suggests there is a genetic factor. And as you can see by the other responses that does seem to be common. I think there's other factors, and it's a bit random, but you probably are more likely to stutter if you have a family history.
