So I worked in a call center for 5 years, 3 of those on the phone. I worked my butt off those three years to get into the chat based side. Not going to lie it was hard and I had many days where I wanted to walk out, but I had to pay the bills so I stayed. I will say that most of the time after I became proficient in what I was supposed to do each call was mostly smooth. There would be some days that I was fluent most of the time and then some days where I couldn’t say two words, which is always fun. I developed a strategy where I had an earbud on the ear where I didn’t have my head set and played low music. This helped on the hard days, and my manager was ok with it when I explained why I needed it. We usually weren’t allowed to wear earbuds. After this job I was a receptionist for a real estate company and it was hard to get up and running but after knowing what I was doing it was fine. I still cringed every time that phone rang though.
