You should try it out! Definitely experimenting with self-advertisement is a good thing to do. I usually do not self-advertise unless the person asks me about it, but I know people that do and they think it's the way to go. I try to act like I'm just a normal person (which I feel I am, the stutter is out of my control), but I also try not to be afraid of saying what I want to say even if I know I will block on the word. Usually if I self-advertise, people don't know how to react in my opinion, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that I have speech impediment. :-D An analogy I often think of is like how silly would if a bald guy when introducing himself said "just so you know, I'm bald". But if you are trying to hide your stutter or behaving like an introvert or it seems that you are experiencing discomfort during a block, something like that, it could make the other person feel a little weird and not understand what's going on. A lot of people feel it "lets the cat out of the bag" and can relieve tension and pressure. See what works for you, good luck!!
