Tips for dealing with speech blocks on certain syllables? And blocks when asked to repeat things? Hi, I've been struggling with speech blocks for my whole life and am considering speech therapy. Before jumping the gun, I'm hoping there's someone that has suggestions for exercises or other things I could be doing to reduce a speech block. Here's my situation: - Words that start with certain syllables cause me to have speech blocks, but only if I'm in a large social gathering (trying to talk loud or join a conversation), or public speaking to a large group. - I get blocked on words that begin with "d", "m", and sometimes "h". For example, I have a difficult time with the words "decision" and "Hawaii". Again, only in the situations mentioned above. If I'm talking 1 on 1, I'm usually fine. - My workaround is usually to avoid those words, but I'd like to find a way to push through them somehow. - Perhaps an unrelated point, but a situation that often happens that I dread is as follows: I'm in a large social gathering and I chime in with a talking point of a sentence or so, speaking perfectly fine. Someone doesn't quite hear me and asks me to repeat myself. This will, more often than not, cause me to get blocked. It's frustrating because I was just able to say the phrase, but find it difficult to say it again.
