I recently joined the USMC with a stutter, and when I first got to Parris Island my stutter was so bad during receiving they pulled me off to the side.. down a long corridor to an office where I had a man look me dead in the eyes and say “Did you disclose your stutter?” Which I felt like was the most absurd thing.. like yes I hid this the entire time. Then through bootcamp they had someone assigned as my “Voice” and I was “Speech”. Who spoke for me through the first few weeks of boot camp lol. Later in training one of the drill instructors recognized me and after a bunch of picking on me lol asked me what sounds I had trouble with.. to which I said “ P, B, D’s mainly sssssssssir” then he told me to yell “Big Dicks Don’t Break!” To which I had to yell that in front of 145 other recruits lol I stuttered over every word lmao I have more but trying to keep it short.
