I think it helps to acknowledge it for what it is. I sometimes tell people about my stuttering when I first meet them. It addresses the elephant in the room and makes me feel easier about it. I have a friend with CP who walks like someone who has CP and she told me that she always tries to be open with others about her CP for the same reason. It helps others understand why she walks this way so that they aren't staring awkwardly wondering how to react. I think owning anything different about you helps others understand in the end. We all suffer cognitive biases with things that aren't in our wheelhouse.
