I'm a person who stutters and I will be a neurology resident in a few months. The specialty choice really depends on what you want to do. I worked with an ER doc who stuttered and he did his job well. In the ER, you have to make a lot of quick decisions, talk on the phone with many different specialists, do procedures (central line placement, sutures, lumbar puncture, etc). Specialties like radiology, pathology have minimal patient interaction, but you will, at times, be speaking to other doctors. At the end of the day, your colleagues care more about whether you are dependable, hardworking rather than your speech. I guess what I want to tell you is that don't limit yourself to a particular specialty because of your speech. Feel free to PM me, if you have more questions.
