Hey I’m a speech therapist. One thing I do to help my students become more comfortable with their stutter is have them go out into the community and purposely stutter (even if it isn’t their natural stuttering). What this does is help them become desensitized to others opinions on how they communicate. I do consider my students’ temperaments and comfortability in doing this, but overall, I’ve seen it helps. Heightened emotions tend to have an impact on a person’s fluency. If we can reduce the heightened emotions (anxiety), then we may reach the desired fluency.
