I find other results are possible also: Reading something _to_ someone can come with a stutter, whereas reading something _on your own_ doesn't. But we're different, all of us. It's part of what makes it so tricky to say general things about stuttering. We have to account for all the variance all the time, since that's what we're experiencing. At any rate, we still "think" when we read. Or to put it differently, there's brain activity during reading and there's brain activity during speaking, even if it's from something read. It's not like we shut off completely, simply because the text is already there. We still have to _perform_. - For a fun test, see if you stutter while recording something you're saying to play back to friends (not read, just spoken on the spot). Then see if you stutter while recording something that's just for you.
