Some advice would be to intentionally stutter on one or a few of the words before your feared words (“dollar” or “delivery”). This will ease your brain because if you stutter on purpose, it tells your brain that there’s no reason to be afraid of stuttering. Then when you say “dollar” or “delivery”, the word should be easier to say. This could look something like, “The total p-p-p-price will b-b-b-be, twenty one dollars, forty two cents”. And when you stutter deliberately, speak loudly so you feel powerful and confident. Slow your mind down, and resist the urge to rush yourself. Remember, it’s just somebody ordering pizza, not an emergency. If you block, and a few seconds go by, it might feel like you’ve made them wait for a long time, but it hasn’t actually been that long. You can always say “excuse me”, take second to reform your thoughts, then try to say the word again. I struggle with this, but I would say to not feel shame if you stutter. Prepare yourself in advance by promising yourself that you won’t feel like a less valuable person if you stutter on a word. Another thing that comes to my mind is to not hide your stutter from your co workers. Tell them about it and try to have some fun about it so they can encourage you when you answer the phone, and so you guys can maybe even laugh together about it. We often think very seriously about our stuttering so any positive experience talking about it with others can be really helpful. I currently use the self help book from the McGuire Program. The book is called “Beyond Stammering: The Sport of Getting good at speaking”. You can download the online version off Amazon in just a few minutes, and around 10 dollars. It’s a very wholistic program that helps strengthen our speaking personality, while providing a breathing technique, etc. I have also been trying out “block releases” and “hit and holds” that I’ve learned from this video. They really helped decrease tension in the throat and face to then take another breath and say the word again. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=HP34JqOl4Fc Best of luck man!
