Could This Be It? This is a post, which I had lazily tried to avoid writing, when an admin. informed me that I may not share links to my personal blog. Here goes. When I was younger, before I began stuttering, I first began to "suck in my gut", shortly thereafter I began stuttering. Fast-forward about 25 years. I was knocked down in a car accident as a pedestrian. I received a very severe brain injury. One of the advantages of this was that I began speaking correctly. I've been pondering how this could be. I have concluded, if a neurobiologist or speech researcher would be so kind as to solidify my findings. Crudely, the diaphragm plays an important role in producing speech, by, in effect, pushing the air out through the vocal chords. By sucking in my gut, habitually, and contorting my innards, I was creating an obstacle course for my diaphragm. A left sided paralysis made that very difficult for me to continue doing. So I stopped. I no longer stutter. Go figure.
