I totally get where you are coming from with your view on speech therapy, as I used to view it that way too. It can be frustrating to see that there really isn't a way to get rid of a stutter fully, but a change in mindset can do wonders. I feel that speech therapy for stuttering is much different than speech therapy for other speech disorders, as you don't just learn how to "become more fluent." In my experience in speech therapy, we did cover some ways to handle moments like blocks and repetitions, but we also unpacked a lot of the negative thoughts I had about having a stutter. It helped me start to really process and work through those negative thoughts that had plagued me for years about myself and what I thought others thought of me. It is still a work in progress, but I don't find myself thinking I am less than just because I can't speak as fluently as others can. As someone who didn't pursue speech therapy until my first year in college, I wish I did sooner because the benefits have helped me out so much in the long run. Best of luck moving forward, and remember you have a whole community of people who have dealt and are still dealing with the same things you are, and there will always be that support out there for you.
