This is an assumption and you might be confusing a therapist with a psychologist. Psychologist based their work on research findings but adopt a psychological perspective when dealing with clients. There is tons of research linking stuttering with anxiety and social difficulties. These are all areas that psychologist can help with because of existing research. Sometimes I have noticed that this reddit group discourages others to explore new avenue because one of the underlying symptom of stuttering is the chronic sense of helplessness. Be mindful not to respond to others in the same way that you respond to yourself. OP, definitely seek support for your social difficulties. You will feel more confident in that area which indirectly can positively improve your stuttering. All the best!
