I know what you mean man.I once ran into a an old teacher of mine from back when I was in elementary school.I couldn't even say ''yiasou'', which is Greek for ''hello''.Worse still, when people who don't understand what stuttering is talk to me and find out that I am an American, they assume that my disfluency is because I don't know much Greek.A lot of my classmates would innocently assume that i was a foreigner, and while they might not have intended to make me sad, this made me feel like I was a stranger in my own country and home.
