My first experience of speech therapy
Content
My first experience of speech therapy I dunno why but I found it kinda weird to see no posts on here that can introduce or narrate what speech therapy is and the experiences of speech therapy. So I wanna be the starter and hope I can help someone! Here is my beginning experience of speech therapy under Zhen Chen's hands: Around 8:05 a.m on 22nd in November I arrived at his private office to for the first time consult him about my situations about my stutter and after he asked my real name, my age, my college major, my address and my hobbies, he concluded that my fluency was not awful but my speech contained a little prolongations, and he started his own mental therapy, which told me that everyone got his/her merits and defects, and he set Jack Ma for example, whose appearance and height are not good and he added if Jack Ma were grieving for his ugly appearance and short height, he wouldn't achieve what he has achieved so far. I also recollected all of the celebrities that I've known of, and my mind agreed on all he said and that is actually a matter of fact. At the end, he told me to install metronome(in Google Play) to increase my timing ability. Here is my second lesson in Zhen Chen's speech therapy on 28th in November: He analyzed my advantages with Penn advantage questionnaire and he asked me to set examples irl to testify if I have really got these advantages. Prior to it, he also rectified one of my misconceptions that avoiding failures is not a rational move cuz not everyone succeeded in certain aspects without failures and they are not focusing on avoiding failures or whatnot. And blahblah.. I also really set my examples irl to him and he admitted I did get these advantages. My third therapy lesson: He arranged for an apprentice to have a lesson that taught me how to control my speech speed and she told me to prolongate my articulations cuz she thought I am a fast speaker. And she showed six excerpts from different literature works in a PPT she made beforehands. And she coached me to prolongate to make my articulation gentle. Finally she asked me to practice speaking gently on a daily basis in dialogues with others and I'm working on it as much as possible although I don't have many opportunities to conversate with others bc of my small social circle. And my speech therapist Zhen Chen mistook my 'thinking problems' for 'language disorders', which are eventually just blocks when I am creating languages or silently reading. He also taught me a technique named Vocal Cord Pre-vibration differentiated from Pull Out. Eventually his Vocal Cord Pre-vibration is also called 'Pull Out', colloquially. And as an another method differentiated from Pull Out, there is also a method named 'Softened Articulation' which suggests you to articulate with less power forced onto speech muscles. And his VCP suggests me to vibrate my vocal cord prior to articulating certain letters/words, and I found it inevitable to prolongate or pause sounds obviously. But I am trying to make it less obvious to make my speech naturer. But if there are options for me to choose:Nature and fluency, I won't hesitate to choose the latter. So I worked out a mixed strategy: Don't focus on speech fluency itself but speech and if encountering any blocks, then use speech techniques at once. But one question that I'm perplexed about is, if I can response to blocks that fast so that I can instantly use speech techniques without monitoring my speech? https://preview.redd.it/4t37d8aqtf581.png?width=1628&format=png&auto=webp&s=022b712fa8c1a5fb704308da9239683ae926edec https://preview.redd.it/xwni6uapsf581.jpg?width=1279&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f71290e1a14290f58f326d81c47da61c5702aaa9 https://preview.redd.it/xjd3sgapsf581.jpg?width=1279&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5eaa60275a36c7edf12b1442a5c8f4e492e163d6 https://preview.redd.it/lsy9jvzrsf581.jpg?width=1279&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=04a38d34f7bcf11cfecf6cfe91979932e0365539
