#long post😓 Great question. The physical speaking technique McGuire teaches uses strong costal breathing, is assertive, powerful, and uses basic speech mechanics. Psychologically, the program teaches tools to work through our fears of speaking with the aim of becoming a strong confident speaker. As others have correctly said, there is no cure for stuttering. But I am constantly conquering feared situations and now have no fear approaching anyone and ask for anything. My speech is overall strong, assertive and when I stumble, I use the tools I have learnt to get through the situation. Traditional speech therapy, whilst good at addressing the physical aspect of stuttering, may not necessarily address underlying fears, frustration and self doubt. Post intensive course support is the key to long term speech control and in my view is the strength of the program. Coaches, instructors are keen to assist whenever they can. Dave’s book Beyond Stuttering is in my view a modest outlay if you are unsure about the course. It contains what the course teaches. The key is hard work and persistence and using the support network. Results will come with time. I’m a humble program graduate working hard on controlling my stutter. #end😎
