Mine has thankfully changed from repeating to a block stutter over the years. What I find helpful is to be mindful of the tension in my face, mouth, and throat when blocking. When you are having a block, you'll likely notice a lot of tension. Start to work on diaphragm breathing and relaxing while exhaling before speaking. Try to feel the tension subside as you speak. It takes work and you have to focus or the tension will come back. I read the book "Understanding and Controlling Stuttering" and it talked a lot of about this concept. The author goes further and says to notice all tension in the body, especially the anus and work on relaxing all of the tension. To answer your question: You can still do most jobs with a stutter. I did phone support for EA and Apple while I was in college and I was always one of the top performers on my team, despite having a block stutter. You can't let it define who you are, but I know that is easier said than done.
