Hi! I would never discourage anyone from pursuing medicine. It truly is a noble calling and to see your patient come back after having responded to your treatment, there's no better feeling in the world and makes the heartaches and sleepless nights seem worth it. I may sound like a sad sack now, but I will assuredly move on with my life eventually. Anyway you have quite the advantage over me. At your age I never thought or did a single thing about my stutter, and it was only during internship did I think "huh...this might be a problem." You're still going to start a premed, which gives you plenty of time to seek speech therapy and try the many solutions I never did. You may also develop an interest in specialties that won't tax your speech so much, such as pathology, anesthesiology or family medicine. In short, it's far too soon to call it quits.
