I would totally 'pretend' to forget a word, like I'm blanking on it, even though it's really just because I know I'm gonna stutter. Sometimes I'll pretend to cough and sometimes that helps me get the word out after. Or I'll just laugh and tell them I'm tripping over my words today, proceeding to really say the word slowly and enunciate it. Normally people don't even notice that I'm pretending to do something. And honestly, even if I do stutter, I just smile and keep going. Kind of laugh it off. Seriously 90% of the time no one asks or notices. People trip over their words all the time.
