This literally happened yesterday: I play on a high level international sports team and we had a day where we went into the community and met some local youth teams and were there to take pictures. I was under the assumption only one guy would talk, but all of a sudden they announce that we are all here to introduce ourselves. My whole team goes down the line and introduces themselves. At that moment I knew I was screwed. I got blocked on my name and again during my hometown etc introduction. The crowd of like 80-100 people was dead silent, some kids snickered, but I made it through and onto the next guy. What kept me positive afterwards was that I was still able to smile and be happy during all the photos so people knew I was still me. And people care so much more about what’s going on with them that they would have forgotten all about it by the time our team finished. Introductions can be hard, I sympathize greatly with you, and wish you all the best in finding ways to improve them. Personally i always prefer other people to introduce me, or if I do have to, I’ll say “fun fact about me is that I have a speech impediment, so if you notice I get blocked at some times, it’s all good and I appreciate your patience”. But do what works best for you!
