bb wall, I stuttered from age 4-70! I did finally recover at the age of 70 through psychotherapy dealing with an abusive childhood. My stuttering was emotionally caused. My husband and I have 2 adult children and 5 grandsons and none stutter. My father said he stuttered until the age of 18 though I always knew him to be fluent. My husband’s mother stuttered until the age of 25. Even with stuttering on both sides of the family, no children or grandchildren were affected. Even if your child stutters in early childhood, as our daughter did for 2 years, don't assume it's genetic. Young children often stutter when just learning to speak. 85% of them become fully fluent by the age of 5. I know I made all kinds of promises to god that I’d dedicate my life to him if this course would only be lifted from her. She became a very verbal, talented woman. She has never remembered she had difficulty speaking. Our son had no difficulty whatsoever and the 5 adult grandsons were always fluent. I know your fear, it was mine too, but have your children and don't fear. There is new research that is testing medication to treat stuttering. The science is quickly advancing. Sue
