I tend to think that stutter does not equal social anxiety. They can overlap, or not, depending on a person. I’m 36 and I have a terrible social anxiety (also researching autism) though my stutter itself is rather mild. But I’m terrified of speaking in unknown/unpredictable situations, and will avoid it at all cost. My dad (now 60) stutters much more and doesn’t avoid communication at all. His stutter annoys him, but he is not anxious about it. I also had 2 class mates at the university who in general stuttered more than me but were not scared to speak, including publicly. You just can be lucky enough to get both 🥲. I also feel like even if I would not stutter, I’d still have issues with communication.
