For those of you who talk on the phone for a living what do you do and how did you get the job?

For those of you who talk on the phone for a living what do you do and how did you get the job? I read a book years ago that mentioned stutterers who were able to get high stress jobs like 9-1-1 operators and ever since have wondered if anyone could ever consider me as a phone operator. I work in a diner in a Senior Living community and have contemplated requesting to be trained on take out but am hesitant to even ask. What will my manager think of me and what would the take out girl think even? I would just like to know some of the stories of fellow stutterers who work on phones all day. How do you guys get through the day? How did you get the job?
