i'm 36 yo, and currently have mild/moderate stutter. Growing up, i had severe stutter until when I reached 20s. Somethng changed, and I remember starting to become much more fluent and extroverted. I made lot of good friends, found my soulmate, and killed in job interviews. Best 10 years of my life! I regressed little bit in my 30s (maybe because I got comfortable with my life, and stopped working on my speech). However, I never regressed back to the severe stutterer that I was before that. Here's I think why my fluency improved: - I joined a band as guitarist, and I had to sing aloud a lot as backup singer. I got to hear my voice aloud for the first time. Although my voice is not that good, I loved singing out aloud when I was alone, practicing guitar. - I found few friends/bandmates that didn't care about my stuttering, and accepted me the way I am. So I started speaking more - I was practicing my english at that time, so I'd read out aloud ALL the time, sometimes hours on end - I started working out, which gave me more confidence to put myself outside my comfort zone So, the lesson for me is to speak out loud any chance I get. I still struggle with big presentations and meetings. I've bad days and good, and struggle to say my name while introducing myself. But at the end of day, I know I'm capable to being far more fluent with some hard work. Hope this helps you in some way. You can reach out to me if you've any questions, or just want to talk.
