This is going to sound kind of backwards but I think that public school speech therapy did more for me than private sessions ever could. It was part of my school day once a week and it was with other students that were there for different reasons. The SLP had us play board games, which I believe were specifically for speech therapy it wasn’t like Monopoly or Risk. I had “homework” which was strange tasks like making certain sounds with a straw in my mouth, I really don’t remember all the specifics of what she actually had me do. But it helped me. My parents noticed a difference and so did I. It didn’t fix everything but I’m better off than I would’ve been without it. The group aspect of the sessions probably helped a lot, I didn’t feel so alone. It wasn’t just me and a professional with no personal experience stuttering. We got to gain confidence together.
