Yes! "it's probably going to go away" is not that great because then if when you're eighteen and still stammering away, you find yourself quite ill equipped for that. I certainly did. I think that the focus should always be on that stammering now is fine, and behaving and thinking as though its not going anywhere really helped me accept it for what it was which for me was even good for my social life because I was more accepting of myself and how I sounded. Even if it does go away, you don't want the lad waiting for the stammer to disappear so his life can start. My stammer can be extreme sometimes and I'm an adult now and I just want to let you know that that can turn out OK too. With the sign language, I have considered many times trying to learn a bit, I was put into macaton at school, the only thing I worry about with that is appropriating deaf culture. I do believe there are stammerers out there who sign and I will be very interested to look into it.
