I think that being self-conscious has positive effects and negative effects. I argue that too much self-consciousness (about your 'stutter triggers' for example) can lead to more anxiety. My argument: because it can: * make you constantly worry about how you are perceived by others leading to natural or physical inhibition * make a habit of repetitive negative thinking resulting in a negative self-perception, viewing the cup as half empty, focusing on perceived flaws. * make you fear of being negatively judged * make you avoid situations where you feel judged **Conclusion:** So, I recommend to turn self-consciousness into a positive result. Such as: * apply self-consciousness to understand yourself, thoughts, emotions, and behaviors better * dissociation of your perceived triggers. This can then lead to being less sensitive to stuttering or its triggers * mindfully (instead of anxiously or reactively) observing can lead to improving your appearance, behavior, and communication style
