Stuttering is not the problem. The problem is being uncomfortable by it. If you teach a young child to be ignore their repetitions (including others’ reactions), it will not develop secondary characteristics that are the impactful and disabling pieces. To be clear, speaking with repetitions is not the problem. Not wanting others to hear your repetitions results in blocks, avoidance behaviors, and anxiety.
