I think it's quicker and easier to just say a few words that you have said many times before that you know you won't stutter on. I have a hard time with "new" words that I wouldn't normally use in my daily social interactions. What's working for me is that with people that I don't know well, I assume they can tell I have a speech impediment which takes a huge weight off my shoulders. With friends, I would tell them in private. Most of the time I would stutter a lot more for a short period of time to unconsciously keep up the "image", but after a while I would be less conscious about it and my speech get better
