glad so have found this subreddit im a 20 yo who has been stuttering since i was about 6-7. my entire life has revolved arround my stuttering and had been a huge burden on me. school was always stressful and caused me a great amount of anxiety. luckily, bullying wasn’t too big of a concern since i always made sure to look my best and hide my stutter as much as possible. nevertheless ive lived my life in constant fear of embarrassing myself. like many of you here, i took speech therapy from 3 grade up until my 7th, none of the session were consistent and would never help me in the long run. since then ive learned to accept myself for who i am and live my life the way i want. i dropped out of college my first year because i knew i wouldnt get far with my speech impediment. i had dreams of being a cosmetic chemist but im currently living out another childhood dream and pursuing nails ( @pinkspressons on insta muahah shameless promo). since graduation, i made a promise to myself to live life the way I WANTED TO. no more pleasing others, no more anxiety, no more fear, just living to please myself and if i didn’t want to do something,i wouldn’t do it. i’m happy to say i have an amazing boyfriend who is always supportive and accepting of me and my condition. im even more happy to say that he was my middle school crush, and even though i had it set in my mind that i would never have him, i managed to woo him even with my stutter. since isolating myself, ive grown more my confidence and have been living life in peace. little by little im starting to put myself out there and live my true self but i think ill always have that “chain and ball” shackled to myself. im just hoping it gets lighter throughout my life
