No, “relax and talk slowly” is a very confusing and totally useless recommendation. It doesn’t explain precisely what you need to do. What does it mean “relax”, for example, at the moment when someone stepped on your foot on a crowded bus and you must scream: “Hey! Get off my foot now!” Normal people never relax:-) They JUST SPEAK! The other advice to “speak slowly” is even worse:-( What does it mean? How much slowly? How many words in a minute? Just like all other people who stutter, you also don’t have answers to these questions, right? My recommendation is very specific: you take as much time as YOU need to select ONE WORD and let your tongue say it ENTIRELY. Then, do the same with the next word: TAKE TIME to select and say it right away with your tongue:-) All normal speakers speak in this natural way of adding word after word, one by one and NEVER attempt to say “everything at once”, which is stuttering:-) It’s similar to the way we select and write only ONE WORD at a time; then, think of the next word and let our hand write it. Do you understand me?
