Support and encouragement is the best solution. The main techniques I use is always thinking of the “soft touch” so mentally preparing how I can say a word in a soft tone so it doesn’t make my throat clench also the breathing out and saying a word at the same time is a good way to start a conversation for me. My stutter they diagnosed is more emotionally triggered so if I’m stressed, sad, depressed or sometimes just not thinking out what I’m going to say I stutter. But once I’m in the rhythm of the conversation things settle and it’s fine. As for my retail jobs it’s funny because the amount Burberry gives its staff on training material it was almost as if I was reading from a script. When reading out loud for some reason I don’t have an issue with. But also being in that environment having no clients of colleagues complain or mention my speaking helped my confidence a lot that resulted in me not stuttering as much in everyday life. But my biggest encouragement is not being afraid to speak. I play a lot of video games online and am constantly only using my voice. As anyone can attest with a stalker phone calls are simply the worst. I’ve never stopped talking with people online no matter how bad the abuse but interestingly most are accepting, don’t think I’ve ever had anybody take the piss while gaming. I went to Apple House in Oxford when I was about 10 and again when I was about 12 even if your not in the UK it’s still worth contacting them for material and support. http://stammertrust.co.uk/apple-house/ Hope this helps.
