I had a situation earlier this year at work... Been at the job since last year. I'm fluent. Had my stuttering under control for years and years. i.e. No one at works knows that I have a stutter. One morning I was talking to the dispatcher, and my stutter kicked in (IIRC, I was tired and dealing with a lot of stress outside of work.) The dispatcher made a "spit it out" comment. I calmly told her that I grew up with a severe stutter, and that it kicks up every so often. She was horrified and so very apologetic. I assured her I wasn't offended. It was certainly a foot-in-mouth moment for her. But she wasn't being mean. She meant no disrespect. No offense was intended. As such, no offense was received.
