Thanks for posting this, I think sometimes about posting something to the sub where people can share their stories and what works for them. I think I had a bit of an epiphany recently, and I think some of the people on this thread helped with sharing their own experiences. Anyway, I started a new job a few months ago, moved, got a house, so a lot of big changes, which usually means a bit more stuttering for me. I took a fluency-shaping course a few years ago, and I was, at first, getting a little annoyed that my techniques seemed to be failing me. I think some of the thoughts shared on this sub are great though, the thought of not minding your stutter too much, charging ahead, saying what you want to say, continuing to converse and interact, that the process of de-sensitization is probably one of the healthiest things you can do for yourself if you are stuttering. So, I tried to do that over Thanksgiving break with friends and family, and I felt a weight of sorts lifting off of me. It felt nice to not worry so much about fluency and focus more on communication, that seems to be key! Besides that, my work involves lots of communication, so I kind of dread some of the public presentations, the networking events, conferences, etc. I'll have to go to, but I'm switching my mindset and looking at these as adventures. I think Carol Dweck's "growth mindset" book has a great way of phrasing taking on challenges and can be applied to stuttering as well! I also really enjoy the attitudes presented on the podcast StutterTalk, too. Take care folks, happy thanksgiving!
