My brother stutters. Nearly every sentence. Sometimes so severe he has cried because he can’t tell me he loves me. He’s had more steady girlfriends than i have had. And they have all been very attractive. Particularly his current and longest term girlfriend. I’m an attorney who owns my own law firm and went to a top five law school. People routinely tell me i’m handsome, well spoken, have my life together, compassionate, socially skilled, and should run for public office. Stuttering does not have to be a barrier to love, romance, success, or self esteem. My brother got a job at Goldman Sachs out of a very mediocre university. At his last job, he was so valuable to his company, the CEO kept him in an office right next to his and would pound on the wall when he needed to talk to my brother. Teachers told my brother he would never get an A in English. Therapists told us he would never make it to college. And doctors said we should be prepared to care for him for life. He’s now doing better than I am. And he stutters his whole way through it.
