Hi, I'm Sue I used to stutter and I.no longer do. I'm now 76 years old and I stuttered from age 4 until 5 years ago. I did all kinds of speech and psychotherapy but nothing helped until my most recent psychotherapist deconstructed my abusive childhood. If you were mocked and made fun of especially by your parents and family members, of course, you suffered emotional trauma. I stuttered as well as endured severe chronic migraines, anxiety and depression..what a sad life. Have you considered how your childhood, even one traumatic event might have triggered your disfluency?Speaking can make anyone nervous. Do you suffer from anxiety generally? For me it was a giant feedback loop of stuttering, becoming anxious and embarrassed and then stuttering more. School was a nightmare. Reading aloud was the worst torture. Speaking in class would bring mockery and snickers. I know where you're coming from. At any rate one year into my most recent therapy I noticed total speech fluency. No hesitation, blocking or repetition whatsoever. After a short time I lost all anxiety associated with speaking totally. I'm now a fluent speaker. I'ts amazing and totally freeing to be able to say exactly what I'm thinking. No who knows me recently would ever guess I had a speech impediment. I share this with you to offer hope that you can reach total fluency. In your case there may be no childhood abuse. You may have suffered no incident of trauma; however there is hope at any age. I recovered at age 70 through psychotherapy but with the recent advances in speech therapy especially using breath control there is hope. If I can offer any support please message me. I've been there and back. Oh, no more migraines, depression or anxiety either. Best wishes, Sue
