Hey, as someone that also stutters, but doesn’t stutter that much, the real problem is just in our own head. We don’t want other people to know that we stutter, and especially we feel embarrassed to disclose that we stutter because we feel that others won’t believe us because our stutter isn’t always obvious. So it’s just this awkward thing for us where we are stuck in between wanting to tell people we stutter but not seeing it as totally necessary that we tell them. As people that stutter, we are our own worst enemy. God tells us to have courage but we are the ones that hold ourselves back and try to hide our stuttering. I really recommend the Dave McGuire Program, and they even have a self help book you can buy on Amazon called “Beyond Stammering, the Sport of Speaking.” You can download it and have it on your Kindle app in just a few minutes. It is a wholistic method that helps strengthen your personality and provide a breathing technique for feared words. If you commit to the method it can hold up under feared situations. My best advise, that I need to follow more as well, is to find someone that can support you through this journey, and talk about your strutting with everyone you know, as much as you can until you have slowly normalized your own idea of your stuttering. It’s a slow process but take it one step at a time, disclosing to one person at a time. And I have found that many people actually want to listen and find stuttering as something interesting. Btw, I don’t understand why as mentioned, we aren’t allowed to discuss God. We’re not arguing here. The person that made this post is a follower of God, so it is a big part of their life. So talking about God is part of their personal recovery in stuttering, therefore relatable to this subreddit. Please maybe also reach out to a professional. Things will get better, and I will pray for you.
