yep, i felt exactly like this while learning french and spanish from ages 9 -14. i could write in both languages okay-ish, often getting decent grades but as soon as it came to the verbal side of it i failed every part. i would stutter on a word, start panicking then pronouce the foreign word differently just to get it out quicker. that then spiralled into me only pronouncing them words in the easy way, so i ended up getting bad grades and i gave up in learning. it sucks cos i went to a spanish speaking country when i was about 11 and could just about converse with the waiter serving me food. she was impressed at how much i knew at my age, and i just wonder how far i wouldve got with my lagnuages if i didnt let me stutter hold me back
