Hey there, sorry that you are going through this. Just know that most of us have been exactly where you are now, including me. I used to be a Financial Rep at a bank and I was usually the one that had to answer the phone for the branch. It was nothing short of a disaster... Whenever we had to answer the phone, there was a script we needed to recite. I would always, without fail, block on certain words. People laughed at me, asked if I was "choking", and would just be incredibly rude. One day our store manager called and I answered the phone and started to block. He immediately cut me off and said, "I knew it was you because you don't know how to speak." Its now been two years since that day, but I still get nauseous thinking about it. During my lunch break I wouldn't eat, but rather sit in my car fighting the urge to cry. It was honestly one of the darkest times of my life. BUT I made it through, and YOU WILL TOO. I left that horrible place and now have a job that I love. I still need to use the phone a lot, but I am much more confident and frequently practice my speech at home. Here's a tip: try recording yourself answering the phone at home and play it back to yourself. For some reason, hearing my own voice helped me calm down. Do you need to read from a script? Or can you change words around? If so, try to mix in words that you don't block on. Hope this helps! Keep us in the loop.
