Imagine a place where everyone hates everything and everyone is too immature to understand anything that’s happening so they take it out on everyone around them. Oh, and you’re forced to be there the majority of each day. That’s high school. And it sucks/ed for just about everyone (even for the kids everyone thought were living the dream, because they also had shit going on behind the scenes). Now you’re entering the real world. Here’s the thing: it’s not much better. Still a lot of butter and unhappy people who want to make you bitter and unhappy. But attendance isn’t mandatory. You can choose which parts of society you want to participate in. You can get a job that requires minimal verbal communication. My wife, for example, works from home processing pet insurance claims. It’s not glamorous but it pays the bills and she is barely required to communicate verbally. Everything is by email or chat box. You can also find (or start) a meet up for stutterers. You’re talking about hooking up — You think women who stutter aren’t looking for that? And guaranteed, no one in a stutter group is going to get impatient when you block. And it doesn’t have to be at a library. It can be at a bar (once you’re 21) or anywhere you want because as an adult you get to make those calls. Btw I was barely aware that I was alive before I was 25, so don’t get too hasty making predictions. For Christ’s sake, your hormones won’t even level out for a few more years. For me, I was too stressed and depressed to think clearly because of raging teenage hormones. Honestly, life gets way more enjoyable the longer you live it. I’m an SLP and trust me, we don’t know everything about stuttering. We barely know anything about stuttering. It’s one of the least understood areas of research in our field. But we do know that people can make huge gains out of nowhere and it can happen many years into therapy. There’s no single answer or pathway to fluent speech. Maybe it’s not in the cards for you, but I can tell you for certain that there’s no way to prove that one way or the other.
