Hey, thanks for reaching out and asking this question. I know stuttering can be intimidating to work with. Most programs don't teach you how to help kids who stutter or teach it poorly. My experience with techniques is that techniques are taught to get you to control your stutter. This may sound good, but us trying to control our stutter is often what causes so much of the struggle. Wendell Johnson, a pioneer of the field once described, "Stuttering is everything you do trying not to stutter." In short, I wouldn't recommend teaching "techniques". You want your kids to be confident, spontaneous, comfortable communicators. Techniques kill spontaneity and can often introduce more junk into a child's speaking pattern. Treating stuttering isn't like treating artic or other speech disorders. It's not your job to "fix" stuttering. Firstly, it's not something you can fix so get that weight off your shoulders. Your job is to problem solve with your clients on how they can communicate more comfortably and confidentially. Ask them how they feel about it. What they want out.
