For me it got worse too at first. I used to repeat all my sounds like b.b.b.b.ackbone, and I hated that. So then it became more of a stammer because i refused to breath before a sentence and every word had to be pushed out, like b...........ackbone. To resolve this, i first needed to breath which led to my earlier problems coming back. But by doing this, you are actually able to deal with these problems rather than suppress them. My speech therapist used a beach ball as an example. By suppressing your stutter you’re holding the beach ball filled with problems under sealevel, its less noticeable this way, but the pressure starts to build up when you hold it under water, so when you finally let go, the ball will jump really high in the air right, so your stutter will become way more visible and apparent. It is now above sealevel tho, and now you can work on deflating this ball of problems instead of suppressing it. Hope this made sense lol.
