Thank you r/stutter. I have made progress I recently landed a job where I have to do public speaking and it scared me into seeking help. I can't find the post but it linked me to this book. I highly recommend reading it. https://www.stutteringhelp.org/Portals/English/Book_0012_tenth_ed.pdf The things I have learned are: 1. There is no magic "cure" to stuttering. To become more fluent takes work, patience, and a brave soul. 2. Stuttering isn't something that happens TO you, it's something you DO. You can learn from yourself and try to correct your speech on your own. 3. The best therapist you can find is yourself. You are always on call. 4. Accept that you stutter and accept that other people know you stutter and want you to do well. Don't try to hide it and try not to panic when you block (I know). I've been in meetings where incredibly fluent people stumble over words. I've been re-reading and practicing some of the techniques in this book for the past 6 months and I'm finally at the point where I can order food without panicking. I can say onions and potatoes and not have a coronary. Every person's stuttering condition is their own and there is no one size fits all cure. It's a physical therapy regime where you figure out what the fix is. It sucks, it's hard, and it takes time but please try. You owe it to yourself. I know the agony of blocking at inappropriate times. I know your pain. I am offering back to the community the book that helped me. I will always be a stutterer but I'm working on being more fluent. Thank you
