You almost definitely met them in stuttering suppprt groups, right?? Since blocking is ultimately an attempt to attempt to “hide your repetitions from the world”, ppl are much more fluent in that setting. And there is *no real world situation* where ppl sit patiently for a minute between each word. If you are blocking that dramatically, the flow of natural conversation *is entirely gone*. Everyone’s mental focus is entirely on waiting patiently for the PWS. The blocking behavior of the PWS is very physically and emotionally draining. Let me explain it clearly - I am home sick w strep throat. My throat is very sore and it hurts to talk. The few times I needed to talk, *I dramatically limited the length of my sentences*. Instead of “hello, hey, thanks for delivering my package. Ok, I’ll sign here. Have a nice day and stay warm!” I said “thanks.” Alternately, when I dealt w disabling blocks, I would hide behind door w fear when a package was delivered. This is another type of “I cant say what I want to say”. Denying the reality of someone who is suffering is very invalidating. It does not actually help. Edit - your focus on “saying the word” is odd….effective and enjoyable human communication involves MUCH more than just isolated words. It’s body language, tone, timing, cadence, volume, facial expressions, planning, implementing, waiting, etc.
