Wish I had some real advice for you. Wish I'd have had some advice myself. I feel like I really limited myself as far as socialization goes. That's something I regret. You'll probably have some of the best and worst times of your life, but don't limit yourself due to fear of embarrassment. Take it in the chin and come out the other side with a stronger self identity. Also I substituted out of public speaking for a creative writing class, after the board approved my proposal.
