I think it has to do with identifying with people who have the same attributes to you. Like for example if most stutterers I knew had no attributes similar to mine, I may feel a bit out of place, but if I knew a few other stutterers who were similar to me e.g enjoy sports, games then I may be able to connect better with them. LGBT is a pretty big part of peoples lives so I figure that's the reason.
