I don’t think you’re unlucky, it’s just happening to you at a different rate. Stuttering runs on my mom’s side also and I’m the only one in my family who stutters. Im 23 now and my speech is so much better than I was at 17 when I stopped going to speech therapy. I also sometimes have those spasm movements when I get a block, I don’t think it’s that big of an deal, and I agree, if people repeatedly tell me to calm down, I’d be ready to swing at them. Communicate your distaste with that phrase with them. Since they also stutter, they may have their own opinions on stuttering based on their experience, but everyone is different and what worked for them may not work for you. For me stuttering is something that I’m gonna have my whole life and I’ve learned to deal with. I know people who’ve claimed to me that they used to stutter and now they’ve “fixed it”, but they probably don’t understand that it’s different for everyone and kinda frustrating when they claim that mine is an easy fix as well and I “just have to breathe”. It may be frustrating right now but I assure you every year from now ur speech is going to improve and you may not realize it until you’re nearly fluent.
