I agree with you on a lot of things but not this time. Stuttering is bad enough and we do not want to be ripped off for money or for false promises. Some devices are definitely a rip off. Other devices are a big help. Eyeglasses and hearing aids are not a rip off and are not the placebo effect. They work and they help. There are stuttering devices that are extremely helpful. Stuttering is caused by a neurological disruption when the stutterer hears their own voice. If the stutterer does not hear their own voice, their speech is usually markedly better. This is why a person who stutters will usually be more fluent when they whisper, sing, speak in unison with others, or speak in a falsetto. They are not hearing their own voice. They are hearing a modified voice. With DAF the stutter hears their voice on a delay. With the Edinburgh Masker the speaker's voice is masked. For many people these devices are wonderful. Good to be on the look out for unethical devices. But also good to acknowledge stuttering devices that help us.
