Be thankful for their support. I usually wish to be alone, messing up in the presence of strangers. That gets tough later in life, when you get into longer term work relationships, etc.. The friends you still have are the bomb, and they would totally understand if you talked to them about interceding and how it makes you feel (or wrote to them about it). It is not easy, but the relationships are more important than speaking without a stutter. You're the bomb and they care about you. We have a higher price to pay for smooth social interaction, but it can really pay off if you put yourself out there and find the right friends... or shift the paradigm with your current friends. Good luck, and feel free to DM anyone here if you need a fellow stutterer to chat with.
